Brewed Awakenings

Brewed Awakenings

One of my personal goals has been to publish a book or to contribute heavily toward a book which would do more than sit on my coffee table or rest on a shelf in my home. While I have not completely realized that dream yet -- "Patches and Pins", my first effort in writing is still with a major editing house someday, -- THIS was my first fiction book!

Gisela von Brunn, Will Harrison, Jeannie Mobley, Steve Pulley, Leslie S. Russell, S. Michele Smith, Mary Kay Williams and me, all members of the Internet freewrite group, Coffee House Percolator for Writers, got to talking one day back in 2005 and thought it would be a brilliant idea to put together a collection of their short stories, poems, and essays and publish them in a book: Brewed Awakenings...

"Shenanigans!"

Shenanigans!

Two boys, not chipmunks nor cartoon characters, but definitely "characters"! From two separate families, they lived for years at the orphanage, waiting for the opportunity to be a part of a new family. The two finally got their chance -- together! The boys discover that every day of their summer vacation is an opportunity to "have fun!" In the process, they learn about their new community, neighbors, new friends, their parents, as well as themselves. Charles ("Chip") and Dale ("Dale") do it all -- explosions, fireworks, pizza parties after a day's work, and sending an assisted SuperGal(tm) flying through the air!

Experience with them what having a fellow "troublemaker", friend, and brother is all about! Take a read about their combined summer vacation "shenanigans!"

"He applied what he was taught as early as middle school that writing is more than telling a story; it is telling a story from a point of view and illustrating in words why that point of view is important to share. His characters are taken from his life and those of others he came in contact with over a 60 year period: old girlfriends, family members, workmates and supervisors. Rather than "telling on them" he instead shares how their lives intersected with his own, with mainly positive results."

Mike Walton is the recipient of many accolades and was honored recently as an "Outstanding Eagle Scout" by Scouting America (BSA)'s National Eagle Scout Association. He is a member of the HTML Guild, and life member of several other organizations and groups. He also received the U.S. Army's Legion of Merit and Bronze Star medals, along with four Meritorious Service Medals and two Joint Service Commendation medals representing a 30-plus career. He retired from the Army and later from civil service with the Department of Defense and lives on Scott Air Force Base near St. Louis, MO.
